Here is the summary for our meeting on 6.10.20:
We started with a conversation about racial inequality. We discussed resources we have been using to educate ourselves and to address this issue with our staff. Second Street will be having Sherard Robbins, from Visceral Change, come to their staff to discuss this issue. You can look it up and see if that might be possible for your center. The Sesame Street Town Hall was also discussed as a good educational tool. We encourage you to take time to listen, educate and make action in your circles on this very important topic.
DES Trainings- DES is hosting a training on the AZ Registry right now. It was very helpful and had good content.
AZ Department of Education Webinar- The AZ DOE just released a reopening webinar yesterday. To attend the webinar go HERE.
CDC New Webinars- The CDC recently released some new webinars in regards to schools and childcare. You can check those out HERE.
Pima County Health Department- If you aren’t aware the Pima County Health Department has a You Tube channel that they have been releasing daily videos on what is happening in Pima County. Check that out HERE.
Vetted Vendor List- Please check out THIS updated vetted vendor list if you are in need of supplies for your center.
Cleaning Checklist- Northminster is sharing the Cleaning Checklist they created for staff to complete each day.
Temperature Check Form- This is an example of a Temperature Check Form.
AZEIP– A reminder that AZEIP is still providing services. If any of your families could benefit from these please share THIS flyer.
Staff Mental Health Webinar- THIS webinar might be helpful as you address staff mental health.
WHO Guidance on Masks- Emily Rebro from the Pima County Health Department shared this information about Mask wearing.
The WHO updated its guidance on June 5:
Updated Guidance on Masks: World Health Organization (WHO) – includes information and videos on how to make, wear, and clean masks. Note there are detailed designs and materials for masks based on the latest studies, including a recommended three layer mask. The videos and instruction sheets may be valuable for training purposes, if you are choosing to use masks.
The WHO, along with CDC, continue to state that masks are to help prevent the person wearing the mask from spreading the virus, but they will not necessarily protect the wearer from becoming infected. As such, it’s important that mask wearing should always be accompanied by frequent hand washing and physical distancing.
Modifications to PPP- On June 5th, they made modifications to the PPP program. If your program received this money be sure to read up about these changes.
On June 3, Congress passed a bill to modify the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) requirements and it was signed into law on Friday, June 5. There are three important changes to PPP:
1. Borrowers will have 24 weeks, instead of 8 weeks, to expend the funds.
2. Borrowers need only spend 60% of the funds on payroll, instead of 75%.
3. If a borrower spends less than 60% on payroll, none of the loan will be forgiven.
Be sure to stay in communication with your lender and advisors on all SBA matters.
Group Sizes- We discussed group sizes. Most centers in the group are adhering to smaller ratios than normal. This is still something that is left to each center in terms of decisions.
Fun Thermometer Idea- Sabrina Ball from Pinnacle Presbyterian Preschool shared this super fun Thermometer idea!

Pump Sprayers- Pump sprayers that you can get from the hardware store are great for spraying down the play ground and even the classroom since spray bottles tend to break easily. Very reasonable prices as well. Make sure you have the correct solution of bleach/cleaner to water.

Cases Rising- We discussed cases rising in Arizona and if this changed anyone’s start date. Carolyn from Catalina Methodist Day School reported that they did push back their opening to June 22 due to cases going back up.
Evaporated Cooler Outside- One idea from Second Street is to have evaporated coolers outside so the children can spend more time outside.
Tippy Taps- Another idea from Second Street is the use of a Tippy Tap. These are no touch water spouts for hand washing that are very cost effective. For more information go HERE.

Amazon Wish List- Another idea is to create an Amazon Wish List, or just an emailed wish list with the items you may need such as soap, hand sanitizer etc. and ask your greater community to start collecting those items for your school.
NAEYC Virtual Institute- A reminder that the NAEYC virtual institute is available now.
